DK Real City Guides

Brief:
Create a website to support Dorling Kindersley's new travel series Real City Guides allowing additional up to the minute content. Authors from around the world will want to keep the site up to date using a Content Management System.

Approach:
The completed website is a collaborative publication with content commission purposefully by Dorling Kindersley and content submitted by site visitors. All the items in the site are regularly checked for accuracy by authors who live in the city and by comments made by users of the site. The site contains all the listing of hotels, restaurant and heritage sites from the book but also has additional content not possible in the traditional printed media.

The website allows you to log into an events calendar which is kept fresh with all the latest events, openings and happenings by people who live in the city. They record the exact plans for, as an example, this years Notting Hill Carnival and post up exactly what will happen on each day so you can be sure to make the most of your time.

Registered site visitors may use the site to create a personalised calendar for their visit. As an aid to planning the holiday the calendar can show and include restaurants, places to visit and hotels. Against each item it is possible to input notes on how to make the best of the visit. On returning from holiday it is possible to publish comments on what was liked and what perhaps was more hyped up. These comments can then be published to the live site and shared with other visitors.

All content in the site from registered users and the authors in each city is moderated before going live by a website super editor. In this way the site is protect from unhelpful comments.
