EMI and planetnewmedia have collaborated to create an online email marketing campaign to help drive up sales in the all important Christmas period. Three separate campaigns are being sent. The Emailers follow the packaging design of the singles and DVD. This approach will aid consumer recognition of the product in store and help bolster both impulse and destination purchases. The Emailers contain links to preview the product, streaming audio clips or video footage to their PC. To make it easy for consumers to buy the products, the Emailers contain direct links to "buy now" or "pre order now" pages with trusted online shops such as Amazon and HMV. The Emailers will be sent to EMI’s database and offer recipients the chance to enter the competitions with prizes that include this year’s Christmas must have MP3 player. Recipients of the email are encouraged to enter the competitions and reaffirm their allegiance to EMI’s mailing database. There is an opportunity for recipients to forward the email to friends and family. It is anticipated that recipients are more likely to view the messages when sent by a trusted friend and in turn more likely to enter the competition, helping to swell EMI’s mailing list. Commenting on the project a spokesperson from planetnewmedia said "We’ve been working with media companies like MTV on their Emailers for sometime now.
